Police are appealing for witnesses after a man armed with a spear-gun robbed a service station in Brunswick East this morning.

Investigators have been the offender entered the Lygon Street service station about 2.35am and made demands for cash.

The staff member complied and handed over an amount of cash and cigarettes.

The offender then fled on foot.

The man is described as being Caucasian and aged between 20 and 30 years.

He was wearing a hooded jumper and dark-coloured shorts.
