A man has been detained by a shop owner and customers during an attempt armed robbery at a Post Office at Hackham this morning. Just after 10am, a man armed with a knife entered the Hackham Post Office and Newsagency on Collins Parade at Hackham. The man allegedly demanded money but was overpowered and disarmed by the shop owner and several customers in the shop. The man was detained until police patrols arrived and arrested him over the incident. The 19-year-old Oaklands Park man was charged with aggravated assault and attempted aggravated robbery. He did not apply for bail, and will appear in court tomorrow. Two male customers who assisted the shop owner received minor cuts to the arms during the incident and are being treated the scene. Police wish to remind the public, while we admire and appreciate those who stand up for others – after all, this is what police do every day – we don’t want to members of the public, and potential victims, placed at risk.
