Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a hotel in Marrickville last night.

About 10:50pm, Monday 21 April 2014, a man armed with a handgun approached a hotel on Illawarra Road.

He was unable to access the hotel and ran towards the doors of the bottle shop, where he attempted to kick the door in.

The man was last seen running out of the premises and south along Illawarra Road. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident

Police were called to the hotel and established a crime scene which was examined by forensic officers.

A search of the area was also conducted with the assistance of the Dog Unit, however, the man was not located.

Detectives from Marrickville Local Area Command are investigating the incident and are looking for the man who has been described as being 25-35 years old, 178cm tall with an athletic build.

He was wearing a black jacket, a grey hooded jumper and dark jeans.
