A woman has been injured after a man attempted to hold-up a convenience store in Punchbowl at knifepoint today.
About midday (Thursday 3 July 2014), a man entered the shop on Rossmore Avenue and held a large knife to the throat of a 36-year-old female staff member, demanding cash.
Police have been told the woman grabbed the blade of the knife and a short struggle ensued, before the man fled on foot empty-handed.
Officers from Campsie Local Area Command attended a short time later, securing a crime scene that was examined by forensic specialists.
The injured woman was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment to a wound to her right hand.
The man is described as being of Asian appearance, about 170-175cm tall. He was wearing a dark coloured jumper, a black baseball cap and had the lower half of his face covered.
Detectives from Campsie Local Area Command are investigating and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
