Police are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store at Alexandra Hills this morning.

Around 6.30am a man has entered the store on Finucane Road and produced a weapon demanding cash.

The man has then grabbed the cash register and run from the store only to drop it on the footpath after encountering a member of the public.

The man was last seen running into a private property.

No one was physically injured as a result of the robbery.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 173cms tall, of slim build and was wearing a black hoodie.

A black convertible car believed to have been used in the incident was located abandoned in Birkdale later in the morning.

Police investigations are continuing.
