Police are investigating after the armed robbery of a service station at Towradgi, near Wollongong, last night.

About 9.45pm (Friday 22 August 2014), a man entered the service station on Pioneer Road and threatened the attendant with a firearm, demanding cash.

After taking money from the cashier, the man fled to a waiting car, described as a silver coloured Subaru sedan. The vehicle was last seen heading north along Pioneer Road.

The attendant was not injured in the robbery and notified police who attended a short time later.

A crime scene was established and examined by forensic specialists.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for assistance from the public.

The man has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 30-40, about 170-175cm with a medium build and a light brown moustache.

He was wearing a black hooded jumper, sunglasses, blue jeans and dark coloured shoes at the time.
