Police have charged a man after an attempted armed robbery at a pharmacy in Helensvale around 7pm on Friday.

It is alleged a man entered the Sir John Overall Drive store produced a knife and demanded pharmaceutical products from the shop assistant.

A 23-year-old Helensvale man was charged with nine offences including two counts of stealing, one count each of attempted armed robbery, producing drugs, possession of a knife in public, possess utensils, possessing anything used in commission of a crime, and manufacture explosives without authority.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
