A man has been charged over two armed robberies in Sydney’s inner city last weekend.
Just after 4.30pm on Sunday 12 October 2014, a man entered a bottle shop on Abercrombie Street at Chippendale allegedly armed with a broken beer bottle.
It’s alleged the man approached and threatened the attendant, demanding money before fleeing with cash and alcohol.
In the second incident, about 6.30pm, a man hailed a taxi on Regent Street at Chippendale. After arriving at High Holborn Street in Surry Hills the man allegedly threatened the driver with a broken bottle before stealing money from his wallet.
Police from Redfern and Surry Hills local area commands commenced an investigation into incidents, which are alleged to be linked.
Following inquiries, police from Sydney City Local Area Command arrested a 35-year-old man at a shopping centre on Pitt Street yesterday (Saturday 18 October 2014).
The Redfern man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with two counts of armed with offensive weapon.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 19 October 2014).
