Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following an armed robbery in Punchbowl this morning.

About 7.15am (Friday 21 November 2014), officers attached to Campsie Local Area Command were called to The Boulevarde, near the intersection of Punchbowl Road, after reports of an armed robbery.

Investigators have been told a group of at least four men approached the driver of a delivery van at the location and threatened him with a firearm, before striking him in the head with the weapon.

There was also a second man with the driver; however he was not injured during the incident.

The men took an amount of cigarettes from inside the van before fleeing the location in a white van.

Campsie police were contacted and launched an investigation into the incident.

Inquiries revealed the white van was utilising stolen number plates, ZBC549, and had courier signage down the side of the vehicle.

Local police conducted extensive patrols of the surrounding area; however the vehicle was not located.

The men involved have only been described as wearing hooded jumpers, track suit pants and either balaclavas or bandanas covering their faces.

The delivery driver was assessed by NSW Ambulance Paramedics at the scene, but did not require further medical treatment.

A crime scene has been established at the location and will be examined by detectives and specialist forensic officers.
