Police have charged a man in relation to an armed robbery in Yeppoon yesterday afternoon.

It will be alleged at about 3.50pm the man entered a service station on Vin E Jones Memorial Drive and presented a knife while demanding money and cigarettes from the female attendant. The attendant complied and the man left the scene in a vehicle.

Witnesses at the scene obtained the registration number of this vehicle and notified police.

Police observed the vehicle a short time later on Scenic Highway. It will be further alleged that as police have attempted to intercept the vehicle near the intersection with Kinka Beach Road the driver has lost control and collided with a police vehicle.

An 18-year-old Park Avenue man was subsequently arrested and charged with one count each of armed robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle and evade police.

The man was further charged with another count of armed robbery in relation to an alleged armed robbery of a Rockhampton grocery store in Main Street, Park Avenue just after midday on Sunday, October 7.

The man is due to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrate’s Court today.
