Police from Flemington Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding a robbery in Newington overnight.

About 10pm (Monday 29 December, 2014) a 30-year-old male employee completed his shift at a bottle shop in Newington and started closing up for the night.

As he was preparing to close, a man armed with a knife approached him and demanded cash from the register.

The armed man, who has been described as Caucasian in appearance, with a thin build, about 180cm tall wearing a navy blue hooded jumper with a another dark jumper over the top, and black tracksuit pants with white Nike running shoes and latex gloves, left the store with an amount of cash.

Police were called and an investigation is now underway.
