A man has been charged following an armed robbery in Alexandria yesterday.

About 5.40pm (Sunday 4 January 2015), a man entered a bottle shop on Fountain Street and allegedly tried to steal a bottle of alcohol, when he was approached by security staff and an argument ensued.

The man allegedly produced a replica pistol and threatened staff during the argument.

A customer intervened and, together with the security guard, grabbed the replica pistol from the man and detained him until police arrived.

Police from Redfern Local Area Command responded to the incident where they arrested a 21-year-old Marrickville man.

He was taken by to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, before being taken to Redfern Police Station.

He was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon and refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
