Detectives investigating an armed robbery, two carjackings and a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west last year have arrested and charged a man.

About 10.30am on Friday 31 October 2014, police responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery at a bank on Waldron Road at Chester Hill.

A short time later, three men entered a club on Weymouth Avenue, Auburn, armed with guns and a hammer.

They allegedly threatened staff before stealing cash and fleeing the area in a blue car which was being driven by a fourth man.

Two officers in an unmarked police car saw the vehicle and initiated a pursuit on nearby Wellington Road.

The pursuit continued for a short time before the blue vehicle, which was allegedly stolen, collided with another car on Woodville Road at Villawood.

The car continued driving into Tangerine Street at Fairfield East before the occupants got out and allegedly made two unsuccessful attempts to carjack other vehicles.

They ran from the scene and a large-scale search was conducted by police from multiple local area commands; however, the group was not located.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad formed Strike Force Wallent to investigate the incidents.

Following an exhaustive investigation, a 21-year-old man was arrested at Port Macquarie Police Station yesterday (Thursday 15 January 2015).

He was charged with the following offences:

– Robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon;

– Robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon (attempted) x2;

– Take and drive conveyance without consent;

– Firearms offences (x3); and

– Participate in a criminal group.

The Port Macquarie man was bail refused and appeared at Port Macquarie Local Court today (Friday 16 January 2015) where he was remanded in custody to appear at Burwood Local Court on 18 March 2015.

Strike force detectives are continuing their inquiries to locate the other men involved.
