St Kilda Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following an armed robbery at an Elwood convenience store this morning.

Investigators have been told a man armed with a machete entered the Ormond Road store just after midnight and demanded cash from the attendant.

He was given the till tray which he emptied into a black satchel and fled the scene on foot.

The robber was last seen running along Normanby Road.

Police are investigating the incident and have released images and CCTV of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.

He is described as being 175-180cm tall with a medium build.

He was wearing a black balaclava and black gloves with a dark-coloured UFC brand hoodie with yellow or gold logo on the front and along the sleeve and faded blue jeans at the time of the incident.

He was carrying a machete with a black handle and black blade.
