Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery of a pizza shop in Carlton last night.

About 8.45pm (Saturday 17 January 2015), officers attached to St George Local Area Command were called to a pizza shop on the Princess Highway, following reports of an armed robbery.

Police have been told a male armed with a knife entered the shop and threatened an employee, a 35-year-old man, and demanded cash.

The employee armed himself with a chair and refused, and the man fled the scene south along the Princess Highway, empty-handed.

No one was injured during the incident.

A crime scene was established and police commenced inquiries.

As they continue to investigate the incident, police would like to speak to a male who may be able to assist them.

He is described as being of medium build, about 157cm tall, 15 to 16-years-old, and was wearing a white hooded jumper
