Police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man following the explosion at an ATM in Winnellie on 30 December, 2014.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day from the Serious Crime Squad said the incident, which occurred at 3:45am at the ANZ bank, completely destroyed the ATM.

“It is alleged the man fled the country soon after the incident. He returned recently and was arrested in Berrimah yesterday by Serious Crime Squad Detectives.

“The man, who received significant burns to his arm during the incident, has been charged with arson and remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrates today.
