Detectives from Strike Force Vega have charged a 44-year-old man in relation to a number of armed robberies in Alice Springs earlier this year.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said Police allege the armed offender entered a service station in Sadadeen on 25 January and threated the attendant before fleeing with cigarettes and quantity of cash.

“Police allege the armed offender attended a second service station on the Stuart Highway on 27 January and threatened the attendant before fleeing with cigarettes and cash.

“It is alleged the armed offender entered a business in Alice Springs CBD on 6 February and threaten the receptionist. There was no cash on the premises and he fled the scene empty handed.

“Detectives from Strike Force Vega executed a search warrant at a residence in Hidden Valley Camp on Tuesday and arrested the 44-year-old man.

He was charged with:

Aggravated robbery (x2)

Aggravated assault (x2)

Assault with intent to steal armed with a weapon

Going armed in public

Attempt to commit a crime

Breach of bail

He will appear in Alice Spring Magistrates Court today.
