Police have charged a second teenager over the alleged robbery of a taxi driver on Thursday night.
About 9.10pm (Thursday 5 March 2015), a 36-year-old man driving a taxi was stopped by five males wanting a lift at a bus stop on Gardeners Road.
The taxi driver told the men he could not take all five, when two of the males entered the vehicle.
The man drove the pair to the intersection of Cook Avenue and Colenso Crescent when the two males directed him to stop.
Police have been told one of the males allegedly produced a knife, and the three males from the bus stop approached the vehicle.
It will be alleged the five males assaulted the taxi driver a number of times, threatening him and demanding money.
The group fled the scene, south along Cook Avenue, taking cash.
The taxi driver was uninjured during the incident.
Officers attached to Botany Bay Local Area Command were called and commenced investigations.
About 7.15pm yesterday (Friday 6 March 2015), police arrested a 13-year-old teenager in Redfern. He is currently before the courts charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon.
Following further inquiries, a second 13-year-old male was arrested in relation to this incident about 2.30am today (Saturday 7 March 2015) in Maroubra.
This teenager was also charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, as well as breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear in a children’s court today.
As police continue their inquiries into the incident, they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
Police believe the incident may be linked to a similar matter in the area, which occurred about 4am on Monday 3 March, in which a taxi driver was robbed by three males armed with a knife.
