Police are investigating an armed robbery at a hotel in Burwood early this morning.

About 12.40am (Saturday 2 April 2015), two men with their faces covered allegedly entered a hotel on Parramatta Road armed with an axe and a knife.

The pair allegedly threatened staff at the hotel before taking an amount of cash and fleeing the area in a car, not further described.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police from Burwood Local Area Command were called and conducted a patrol of the area for the two men, however were unsuccessful.

A crime scene has been established and is being examined by specialist forensic officers.

Investigations into the incident are continuing and police are hoping to speak with two men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

Both men are described as wearing dark hooded jumpers and dark tracksuit pants. One of the men has been described as wearing a dark balaclava; the other man has been described as wearing a gold coloured shiny mask.
