Gold Coast Detectives have charged a man following the attempted armed robbery of a bank in Surfers Paradise yesterday afternoon.
Around 4pm the man entered the bank on the Gold Coast Highway and proceeded up to a teller before providing his account number and requesting a withdrawal from the account.
Police will allege that when the teller advised the man that there were insufficient funds in the account to facilitate the withdrawal, he produced a mobile phone displaying a message that he would shoot the teller if the money was not handed over.
The teller activated a security device and the man left the bank empty handed.
The 27-year-old Surfers Paradise man was charged with one count of attempted armed robbery and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
