A man has been charged following investigations into an alleged armed robbery of a bottle store in Colyton last week.

 

About 1.20pm on Thursday (7 May 2015), two men, one allegedly armed with a machete, entered a bottle store on Day Street, took a carton of liquor, and approached a 51-year-old man working behind a counter.

Police have been told the armed man threatened the employee, demanding cash.

A 71-year-old man also working in the store approached the unarmed of the two men, and attempted to stop him, when an altercation ensued between the two

The armed pair then fled the scene, taking the carton. They were last seen in a car described as similar to a white Holden Commodore, driving in a northerly direction on Day Street.

The older employee suffered cuts to his wrist, ear and arm. He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics. The younger employee was uninjured during the incident.

Officers attached to St Marys Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

About 12.40pm yesterday (Saturday 9 May 2015), following investigations, police from St Marys Local Area Command executed a search warrant at a home on Brisbane Street, Oxley Park.

A number of items were seized at the home and will undergo forensic examinations.

About 7.40pm (Saturday 9 May 2015), police returned to the home and arrested a 34-year-old man.

He was taken to St Marys Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon. He was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 10 May 2015).
