Police are investigating an attempted robbery at the Henley Beach South Post Office this afternoon.

Just after 4pm a man armed with a small axe and wearing a balaclava entered the Post Office on Henley Beach Road and threatened staff.

The man ran out empty-handed, leaving in a white Holden Commodore sedan registration WXJ316 that was parked at the front of the post office and being driven by a woman. This car was reported stolen from Morphett Vale overnight.

Police found the car abandoned a short time later in Louise Street at Fulham but after a search of the area, the suspects could not be located.

No-one was physically hurt.

One man is described as being Caucasian, 170cm tall, stocky build with a pot belly, wearing a dark blue top, black gloves, black sports pants with white stripes and white shoes.
