Police are appealing for witnesses following the armed robbery of a financial institution at the intersection of Leichardt Street & Upper Edward Street in Spring Hill this afternoon.

Preliminary information indicates a man entered the business just before 4pm where he threatened staff and customers before stealing a sum of cash and fleeing the scene in the direction of the city, travelling along Upper Edward Street.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his late 40s or early 50s, approximately 183cms tall, of proportionate build with short brown hair and a handlebar moustache. He was last seen wearing a dark, long sleeved collared shirt, brown pants and a blue tennis visor.

A male customer was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
