Police have now charged a man after he allegedly tried to rob a fast food restaurant on Port Road a short time ago.

Just after 1pm, the offender entered Hungry Jacks at Beverley armed with a hatchet and demanded money before smashing the glass counter.

Staff activated their hold-up alarm and police were quickly on scene, arresting the man without incident.

No one was injured and the 41-year-old offender from Port Adelaide was arrested and charged with attempted aggravated robbery.

He has been refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
