The attendant received only minor injuries and no one else was injured.
The male was last seen entering and driving away in a gold coloured Nissan X-trail.
Inquiries revealed that the X-trail was stolen from a car park at McCauleys Headland a short time before the robbery.
Police from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command were notified and established a crime scene
The X-trail was located on fire a short time later on Condon Street, Coffs Harbour, and was put out without anyone being injured.
A search was unable locate the male and officers are now appealing for anyone with information about the robbery, vehicle theft, or the identity of the man to come forward.
He is described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, and wearing an olive green hooded jumper.
