Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery during which a video store worker was threatened with a tomahawk on the south coast.

About 8.30pm yesterday (Friday 18 September 2015), a woman was working at the store on Kerry Street, Sanctuary Point, when a male offender armed with a tomahawk entered the shop.

The man threatened the woman with the weapon and demanded cash.

The woman came out from behind the counter and moved towards the front door of the store.

As the man was exiting the door he swiped the tomahawk towards the woman, but missed her. The man ran from the scene without any proceeds.

Police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command were contacted and began inquiries.

The man has been described as Caucasian appearance, 170-175cm tall, wearing black shoes, grey coloured pants, a black hooded jumper, grey t-shirt, black gloves, and he had a blue shirt wrapped around his face.
