A teen has been charged over an attempted armed robbery in which a video store worker was allegedly threatened with a tomahawk on the south coast.

About 8.30pm on Friday 18 September 2015, a woman was working at the store on Kerry Street, Sanctuary Point, when a male allegedly armed with a tomahawk entered the shop.

The male allegedly threatened the woman with the weapon and demanded cash.

The woman screamed and the male moved towards the front door of the store.

As the male was exiting the door, the woman came out from behind the counter and he allegedly swiped the tomahawk towards the woman, but missed her.

The male ran from the scene without any proceeds.

Detectives from Shoalhaven Local Area Command commenced inquiries into the incident.

Following investigations, about 7.40am yesterday (Wednesday 30 September 2015), investigators attended a house on Macleans Point Road at Sanctuary Point and arrested a 15-year-old teen.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob whilst armed.

The teen was refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Wednesday 30 September 2015.
