South Brisbane detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in Mount Gravatt East early this morning.

Around 2.10am a man entered a service station on the corner of Creek and Cavendish roads, where he threatened the attendant armed with a small axe, demanding cash.

The male attendant complied and the man left the service station with a sum of cash, heading south down Creek Road on foot.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance and around 175cm tall. He was last seen wearing a grey hooded jumper, light tan baseball cap and dark coloured pants.

Nobody was physically injured during the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
