A man was arrested while attempting to rob a service station at Paralowie overnight.

At about 2am on Saturday 7 November, a man allegedly entered the service station on Waterloo Corner Road, Paralowie and demanded cigarettes, money and the staff members’ mobile phones.

The attendants reacted quickly, activating the hold-up alarm and moving into a secure area of the store.

The suspect then jumped the counter and attempted unsuccessfully to gain access to the cash register with a hammer.

Elizabeth Police patrols responded swiftly to the alarm and apprehended the man behind the counter of the service station.  He was disarmed and arrested without incident.

No one was injured during the attempted robbery.

The 29-year-old Burton man was charged with attempted robbery and property damage.  He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 22 December.
