CCTV footage from a bank in the Adelaide Hills that was robbed in April was today released by police – along with an explanation the offender offered to staff – in a bid to identify him.

No one was hurt during the incident, which began about 8.50am on Friday, 17 April at the Lobethal branch of the ANZ when the robber approached a staff member as he arrived at work and threatened him with a knife.

The offender told the staff member he had a firearm and later went on to claim he had explosive devices – both on his body and in a small silver box he had with him, however no device was ever seen or located.

After two other staff arrived at the premises, the man took cash and fled in a stolen blue Holden Commodore sedan which was later found in Kleinschmidt Rd in Lobethal.

Detective Brevet Sergeant Julie Hawker, said importantly, during the incident, the offender mentioned that he needed money because his father was sick.

“That information, coupled with this footage and his description may lead to his identification,” she said.

“He was wearing a high visibility long-sleeved shirt, hood, sunglasses and face mask and is described as being of Asian appearance with a strong accent, 165cm tall, of medium build, with dark, thick eyebrows and aged in his 40s.

“Police are requesting the assistance of the public to identify this man and anyone who has information which could assist us is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 – and remember you can remain anonymous.”
