A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery at a supermarket in Sefton yesterday.

About 3.40pm (Friday 15 January 2016), a man allegedly entered the supermarket on Hector Street armed with a knife.

He allegedly threatened the attendant, before fleeing empty-handed.

The attendant was not injured during the incident.

Police from Bankstown Local Area Command were called. A search of the area failed to locate the man.

A crime scene was established and was examined by specialist forensic officers.

About 4.30pm (Friday 15 January 2016), following investigations, officers attended a home in Macquarie Fields and arrested a 22-year-old man.

Following his arrest, officers searched a car at the home and allegedly located a knife and other property. The items were seized and will undergo forensic examinations.

The man was taken to Macquarie Fields Police Station where he was charged with assault with intent to rob armed with an offensive weapon, and drive whilst disqualified.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 16 January 2016).
