20 April 2016 – Update – Charges Laid – Armed Robbery – Supermarket – Rozelle

Police have charged a man following an alleged armed robbery in Sydney’s inner west earlier this month.

About 8am on Saturday 9 April 2016, two men – one armed with a knife – entered a supermarket on Darling Street, Rozelle.

Police will allege the armed man, aged 35, threatened the 29-year-old store attendant, demanding money.

The men left the scene with cash and tobacco.

Officers from Leichhardt Local Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 11.30am today (Wednesday 20 April 2016), a 35-year-old Balmain man was arrested on King Street, Newtown.

The man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with armed robbery with an offensive weapon.

He was refused bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 21 April 2016).

Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information about the identity of the second man is urged to come forward.
