Sturt Police are seeking information from the public following an attempt robbery at a jewellers at Glenelg this afternoon.

Just on 3pm, a man wearing a balaclava, armed with baton, assaulted a security guard outside a jewellers on Jetty Road attempting to gain entry to the shop.

The security guard managed to lock the door of the shop behind him, with the suspect smashing a window of the store.

The male suspect wearing dark clothing and a hooded top ran from the scene to a nearby white Commodore, where up to two other men were waiting.

A white Commodore believed to be the same vehicle used by the offenders was found a short time later in nearby Pier Street.  That vehicle has been impounded and will be forensically examined.

Police patrols searched the area but the suspects weren’t located.

The security guard received minor injuries during the ordeal, but was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for a check-up.
