Police are investigating following an armed robbery at a hotel in Gladstone early this morning.

At around 1:15am two female employees were approached by two men, one of whom was armed with an axe, in the business on Yarroon Street.

The men assaulted the women before fleeing the scene with a sum of cash.

The two female employees were treated at the scene for minor head injuries.

The two men are described as dark skinned and wearing hoodies.

One man is described as being of a slim build and wearing black clothing. The other man is described as being of a solid build with a brown shirt and dark-coloured hoody.

Investigations are continuing.
