A man has been charged in relation to the alleged wounding of a shopkeeper during an attempted armed robbery at a Main Beach business early this morning.

It is alleged that around 2.30am, a man entered the Main Beach Parade convenience store armed with a knife and demanded money.

It is further alleged the store attendant became involved in a scuffle with the armed man, during which time the shopkeeper sustained a wound to the neck.

The man then ran away empty handed.

The male shopkeeper received a non-life-threatening injury to his neck and has been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

A 27-year-old man from Main Beach has been charged with attempted armed robbery, wounding and enter premises with intent.

He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.
