Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted armed robbery at a service station in Auburn overnight.

About 10.55pm yesterday (Friday 24 June 2016), a man approached a service station on Cumberland Road as it was closing.

He produced a firearm and demanded money from the till.

An employee entered the store followed by the man who then fled the store empty-handed.

Officers attached to Flemington Local Area Command established a crime scene and commenced investigations.

Police would like to speak with a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He was last seen wearing a grey hooded jumper, black tracksuit pants, a black balaclava and gloves.

As inquiries continue, investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information, to come forward.
