A third man has now been charged following investigations into an alleged armed robbery in Sydney’s south last weekend.

About 10.30pm on Sunday 17 July 2016, police and emergency services were called to licensed premises on George Street, Mortdale, following reports of an armed robbery.

A man was arrested at the scene and treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for minor injuries, before he was taken to St George Hospital under police guard. No one else was injured during the incident.

A short time later, officers allegedly located a vehicle, believed to be connected to the incident, in Acacia Avenue, Oatley, which was seized for forensic examination.

Police arrested two men and a woman at the location and took them to Kogarah Police Station and Sutherland Police Station.

The woman was released pending further inquiries, but the two men, aged 22 and 25, were charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.

Both men were refused bail and appeared at Sutherland Local Court on Monday 18 July 2016 and were remanded to appear again at Central Local Court on Thursday 8 September 2016.

Police will allege in court that two men entered the licensed premises and produced a firearm before threatening employees and demanding cash.

A 25-year-old man was taken from hospital to St George Police Station yesterday (Tuesday 19 July 2016), where he was charged with robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon, and possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority. He was refused bail to appear before Sutherland Local Court today (Wednesday 20 July 2016).

These arrests follow ongoing investigations by Strike Force Culch, comprising officers from the Metropolitan Robbery Unit, which was formed to investigate a series of hotel robberies committed between June and August 2014 within the St George and Fairfield Local Area Commands.

Investigations are continuing.
