A man has been charged after an alleged armed robbery in Sydney’s east.

About 10am today (Sunday 7 August 2016), a man armed with a knife and wearing a balaclava entered a pharmacy on Marine Parade, Maroubra, and allegedly made demands for cash and medication.

A short altercation took place between the offender and a pharmacist, before the offender fled the scene with an amount of cash and medication.

Police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command attended and arrested a 55-year-old man nearby, after being assisted by a member of the public.

A knife was allegedly located in his possession.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was charged with armed robbery.

He was refused bail to appear at Waverly Local Court tomorrow (Monday 8 August 2016).

The pharmacist was uninjured.
