Police are investigating following an armed robbery at Padstow this morning.

About 12.30am (Thursday 8 September 2016), officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at a hotel on Howard Road.

Initial investigations suggest two people wearing masks entered the hotel.

Both were dressed in dark clothing and one was armed with what appeared to be a small handgun.

They confronted a hotel worker and forced them to open a safe and stole cash.

The worker was assaulted and left in the safe before the two left.

A 53-year-old man was treated at the scene for a broken rib and possible internal injuries.

He was taken by NSW Ambulance Paramedics to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established and investigators from Bankstown Local Area Command have commenced investigations
