Detectives are investigating following the armed robbery of a taxi driver in Toowoomba overnight.

Initial investigations indicate at around 10pm, a man and a woman entered a taxi outside a licensed premises in Toowoomba.

As the taxi came to a stop on Anzac Avenue, the male passenger produced a knife and demanded cash from the driver.

He then attempted to steal the driver’s backpack, and as the driver tried to grab it, stabbed him in the hand a number of times.

The male passenger took the backpack and fled the scene on foot with the female passenger. They were last seen heading towards Hursley Road.

The 32-year-old taxi driver was transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital for treatment of stab wounds to his hand. His backpack was located in a nearby street.

Detectives from the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch are currently reviewing local CCTV and security footage with a view of identifying the man and woman involved.
