Police have charged a man following the theft of a woman with cerebral palsy’s purse in Melbourne CBD last week.

It is alleged the woman was approached by two men while she was selling magazines at a restaurant on the corner of Swanston and Londsdale streets about 2.10pm on Monday 17 October.

One of the men allegedly rummaged through her belongs, stole her purse and put it in his pocket before leaving.

Police arrested a 40-year-old man in East Melbourne about 10am yesterday morning (Saturday 29 October).

He was charged with theft and commit indictable offence while on bail.

The Northcote man appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday and has been bailed to reappear on 2 November 2016.

Police initially believed there was another man involved in the incident however have since determined they believe the second person involved is a woman.

Investigators believe the woman may be able to assist with their enquiries.

She is percieved to be of Aboriginal appearance and was carrying shopping bags.

The woman was wearing a hooded camoflague cargo jacket, white t-shirt and beanie.
