A man has been arrested after he tried to rob a convenience store at Huntfield Heights, but was detained by the store owner and a customer.

Police will allege just before 11.30am, a man armed with a knife entered the South End Super Deli on Honeypot Road and threatened the owner with a knife while demanding money.

He forced his way behind the counter but was detained by the owner and a customer who had just entered the store.

The two men held the suspect until police arrived soon after. They were not injured.

A 29-year-old Huntfield Heights man will face charges of aggravated robbery, and it is expected he will be refused bail to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court tomorrow.
