Police have charged a man following the alleged armed robbery of a chemist in Mount Louisa on December 22, 2016.

It will be alleged around 1pm a man entered a business on Bayswater Road armed with a firearm and threatened staff before throwing a bag on the ground and demanding pharmaceutical drugs.

The staff complied and the man allegedly took the drugs and fled the scene in a vehicle driven by an unknown person.

The burnt out shell of the vehicle was later located by police on a track at the end of Bayswater Road.

It is alleged the same car was involved in two petrol drive-offs earlier in the day at service stations in Bohle and Yabulu and was displaying false Queensland registration plates.

A 40-year-old Mutarnee man has been charged with armed robbery, 3 counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, 2 counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, stealing, wilful damage and deprivation of liberty.

He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court this morning.
