Police are appealing for public assistance after an armed robbery in Wallsend yesterday.

Just before 8pm on Monday 20 February 2017, police were called to a takeaway shop on Nelson Street, Wallsend, following reports of an armed robbery.

Police have been told two men allegedly entered the store armed with a knife and a firearm.

The men demanded money from a staff member, before fleeing in a silver Ford Falcon with a sum of cash.

No one was injured during the incident.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and commenced inquiries.

A short time later, police sighted a silver Ford Falcon and initiated a pursuit.

The vehicle stopped on Masonite Road, Heatherbrae and four people fled the area.

One woman, aged 20, and a 16-year-old male were arrested. With assistance from the Dog Squad, an 18-year-old man was arrested a short time later.

They were taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and have since been released pending further inquiries.

Investigations are continuing.
