Police have charged a man following the investigation into the armed robbery of a service station in Southport last night.

It will be alleged that around 7.15pm, a man carrying a metal bar entered a service station on Smith Street and made demands of the operator for cigarettes and a sum of money.

A member of the public who was in the store at the time of the robbery disarmed the offender and placed him on the ground until police arrived.

No-one was physically injured during the incident.

A 23-year-old Deception Bay man appeared in court today after being charged with armed robbery.
He is due to next appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on September 5, 2017.
