Police are appealing for public information after an attempted armed robbery in the Hunter Valley region yesterday.

About 8.30pm (Wednesday 5 July 2017), an unknown man entered a service station on High Street, Greta.

The man, armed with a knife, approached two employees and demanded money.

One of the male staff members approached the unknown man and an altercation ensued.

The unknown man fled empty handed in a Holden utility. No one was injured during the incident.

A short time later, the Holden utility was found abandoned on Water Street, Greta. A search of the vehicle located a knife, alleged to be involved in the incident.

The items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

Officers attached to Hunter Valley Local Area Command were notified and are calling for any witnesses to come forward.
