A man has been charged after an attempted armed robbery in the Hunter region on Wednesday.

About 8.30pm (Wednesday 5 July 2017), a man entered a service station on High Street, Greta.

The man, armed with a knife, approached two employees and demanded money.

One of the male staff members approached the unknown man and an altercation ensued.

The man fled empty handed in a Holden utility. No one was injured during the incident.

A short time later, the Holden utility was found abandoned on Water Street, Greta. A search of the vehicle located a knife, alleged to be involved in the incident.

The items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

Following inquiries, yesterday afternoon (Thursday 6 July 2017), a 30-year-old man attended Maitland Police Station and was arrested.

He was charged with attempted robbery whilst armed and granted conditional bail to appear at Singleton Local Court on Thursday 17 August 2017.
