Police are investigating following the armed robbery of a convenience store in the city overnight.

A man walked into the store on Liverpool Street, just after 11pm (Sunday 10 September 2017) and demanded cash from a shop assistant.

The man threatened the assistant with a syringe and he left the store after they complied with the demand.

Police from Sydney City Local Area Command patrolled the area for the man but were unable to find him.

A crime scene was established and is being examined by specialist forensic officers.

Investigators would like to speak with a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a medium build and clean-shaven. The man was last seen wearing a black-hooded top and black coloured pants.
