A 17-year-old male has been charged over the assault and robbery of a taxi driver in Waterloo last week.

On Wednesday 18 October 2017, a 31-year-old male taxi driver collected a passenger at a bus stop on Parramatta Road, Glebe.

He was directed to Pitt Street, Waterloo and on arriving at the destination the passenger opened the door and left without paying.

The taxi driver got out and chased the passenger however he was assaulted, suffering cuts and abrasions, and had an amount of cash stolen from his wallet.

The matter was reported to officers at Redfern Local Area Command and an investigation was commenced.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday 26 October 2017), officers arrested a 17-year-old male. He was taken to Redfern Police Station where he was charged with robbery with aggravation.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Children’s Court today (Friday 27 October 2017).
