Police are appealing for public assistance after a stolen car was used in two armed robberies in Sydney’s CBD this morning.
About 4.15am (Tuesday 31 October 2017), police have been told four men, one armed with a machete, entered a tobacconist in Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills.
The men threatened a male employee before stealing cigarettes, cash and a mobile phone.
They were seen entering a black Jeep Cherokee which drove away on Elizabeth Street.
Police from Surry Hills Local Area Command established a crime scene and are continuing to conduct inquiries.
They are working with officers from Sydney City Local Area Command to investigate possible links to an armed robbery at a convenience store in George Street, Chippendale, less than 10 minutes later during which staff were threatened with a knife.
A group of men stole cash and cigarettes during the second robbery and were reportedly travelling in a black Jeep Cherokee.
No one was physically injured at the stores.
The men are believed to have stolen the vehicle from a property in Lord Howe Street, Dover Heights, about 2.45am today.
Police attached to Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command are investigating.
Officers wish to speak with four men who may be able to assist with the investigation.
One man has been described as thin and wearing all black. Another man has been described as thin, wearing a black hooded jumper and black shoes. The third man has been described as having a large build and wearing a black hooded jacket. The fourth man has been described as having a medium build and wearing a dark-coloured jacket.
Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
